Job Summary

This position collaborates with business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver technical solutions that support complex to highly complex business initiatives. The role acts as a subject matter expert to provide systems-level views of technology and devise technical solutions aligned with business objectives. It focuses on enhancing solution design, optimizing development processes, and effectively implementing CI/CD pipelines to deliver impactful solutions that meet business needs. The position ensures technology delivery is successful within lines of business and across the enterprise. It performs work independently while receiving guidance or direction for only the most complex scenarios. Mentors, trains, and coaches team members at all levels.

Essential Tasks & Leadership Philosophy

  • Partners with cross-functional business stakeholders and technical teams to understand and address complex to highly complex initiatives within a business unit or at the enterprise level. Leads discussions to gather requirements, develop solutions, validate technology assumptions, and evaluate implementation alternatives. Influences solution strategies by leveraging comprehensive business knowledge and depth of expertise in solution engineering.
  • Acts as a servant leader for the solution by ensuring Agile Release Trains operate effectively. Anticipates and removes constraints across the development and delivery process while collaborating with Release Train Engineers to coordinate delivery. Provides a systems view of the development lifecycle to lead technology delivery and align architecture with business objectives. Serves solutions with multiple Agile Release Trains or business units. Primarily serves solutions at the enterprise level but may support solutions at all levels as needed.
  • Leads multiple technical projects simultaneously by prioritizing and coordinating solution engineering efforts across teams and initiatives. Establishes performance metrics to measure effectiveness and continuously optimize performance. Manages non-functional requirements and ensures compliance with industry standards throughout the solution development and delivery process.
  • Develops and refines robust technical designs to meet business requirements for complex to highly complex solutions while ensuring scalability and performance. Collaborates with developers and Agile Release Trains to align solutions with enterprise architecture. Works with DevOps teams to implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines that streamline deployment and integrate new features. Engages with quality assurance teams to validate that technical solutions meet performance and reliability standards.
  • Leads development and delivery of complex to highly complex solutions by ensuring technical implementation s align with product roadmaps and overarching business strategies. Monitors progress, resolves issues affecting delivery timelines, and leads technical problem-solving efforts during development and deployment phases. Partners with business stakeholders and technical teams to address challenges and optimize solutions.
  • Oversees the maintenance of technical documentation for solutions to ensure effective knowledge sharing. Engages in continuous learning to stay current with trends and technologies in solution engineering. Applies learning to enhance own skills and impact the achievement of team and project objectives. Acts as a subject matter expert to consult and advise on solution engineering across business units and the enterprise. Leads pioneering of design and development practices to promote innovation and improvements across solutions. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Establish credibility as a trusted AI partner and primary AI contact for both IT and Business organizations.
  • Translate business opportunities into a sequenced portfolio of AI initiatives, clearly defining target outcomes, required capabilities, dependencies, and success measures.
  • Partner across business, architecture, engineering, data, security, and governance teams to identify and remove barriers to execution, accelerate delivery from concept through production, and ensure solutions are scalable, supportable, and reusable across the enterprise.
  • Drive adoption of the enterprise Spec-Driven Development (SDD) framework and AI-assisted engineering practices, achieving 90% adoption across targeted teams.
  • Drive measurable business and technology outcomes through faster delivery cycles, improved software quality, increased automation adoption, and successful deployment of AI capabilities that deliver enterprise value.
  • Lead multiple AI initiatives from concept through production readiness, partnering with engineering ensuring successful delivery while proactively removing obstacles and managing risks.
  • Establish reusable AI delivery assets, including implementation playbooks, patterns, templates, evaluation frameworks, governance controls, CI/CD standards, and production-readiness checklists.
  • Build a portfolio of AI success stories and reusable solutions that accelerate adoption across the enterprise.
  • Champion AI adoption across IT through hackathons, innovation challenges, monthly technology summits, workshops, and enablement programs.
  • Coach and enable engineers, architects, product owners, and technical teams on AI technologies, SDD, and modern engineering practices.
  • Ensure all AI solutions adhere to enterprise architecture, security, privacy, governance, and Responsible AI standards.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and AI-driven transformation across the IT organization.

Education & Career Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required in computer science, engineering, or similar field.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience required in solution engineering, software development, systems architecture, or related.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and working in Agile teams required.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Lead Solution Engineer is in support of AI COE / Forward Deployed Engineer in the AI and Automation Team.  
  • This role is targeting the IT / Systems AI FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer) in support of Farmers IT Core SDLC Functions.

Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, etc.

Physical Actions

Job is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. The physical work environment is indoors and climate-controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation. Normal and customary distractions include background noise produced by office equipment and chatter among people, as well as interruptions. Frequently sits for prolonged periods of time, up to a full shift. Occasionally moves about the workplace including, navigating stairs, ramps, and level or uneven surfaces.
