Job Summary

The Primary location for this role is Bellevue, WA 

 

This role is responsible to support senior level executives determining project portfolio alignment to enterprise objectives and advises leadership in the development and execution of operational/financial strategy. It manages capacity and benefits to ensure the highest value business results are delivered in line with the strategic direction. Partners with relevant stakeholders to assist in defining, establishing and directing the policies and procedures for project management methodology and governance. It set’s expectations for the overall execution of new, fast-paced, diverse, critical programs from project initiation and business case development through implementation primarily focusing on value, quality, cost, and schedule. Programs involve significant return and risk to the company, with approved budgets, includes multiple functions/departments, management/partnership with vendors, involves major IT efforts, impact agents and customers nationwide (directly or indirectly), contain complex business, legal or regulatory issues, and has a typical project duration of 18 to 24 months.

Essential Job Functions

Advises leadership in the development and execution of operational/financial strategy. Leads and assists in executing the annual strategy cycle, prepares materials for approval by the executive leadership. Leads and supports projects with high strategic importance.

Oversees the development and implementation of a quality assurance regimen for standards metrics and mitigation for enabling consistent delivery of high-caliber work products including audit function of business projects and ROI. Manages the development, design and deployment of Portfolio Management standards and ownership of scoring systems and methods on behalf of the organization.

Leads efforts to align tools, templates, processes and KPIs across the units within the broader Program Management Group. Encourages alignment of other PMO elements within Farmers and/or Zurich, as appropriate, to facilitate standardization and dissemination of best practices across the enterprise. Drives the creation, adoption and usage of monthly Project Manager and Business Analyst performance scorecards, affording a quantified and objective view of execution against work standards and behavioral expectations.

 

Initiates and actively supports business process redesign and tool/template enhancement activities that improve efficiency and value flow by reducing redundant data entry or reports. Ensures the development & maintenance of a current and accessible inventory of business process maps.

Coordinates and incorporates research into the governance & control practices of competitors and best-in-class benchmark companies.

Designs distinctive PMO products & services that enhance credibility, and build and maintain brand equity. Identifies new opportunities to add value both within and beyond the formal scope of responsibility. Fosters and promotes streamlined approaches for projects and establishes good communication techniques to avoid competing and conflicting information among multiple sources. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Leads and manages overall execution of the project portfolio to ensure projects are completed in accordance with the project plan and business strategic and/or tactical objectives.

Manages portfolio budget totaling several million dollars, to ensure execution is completed within allocated funding and leads the change management and risk management process accordingly. Conducts project communication/status meetings to ensure information flow among all project teams. Communicates with senior executive sponsors regarding all project related matters via project status reports, discussion sessions, and presentations as required.

 

Physical Actions

Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (e.g. others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to continuously operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.

Physical Environment

This position operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. PMP Certification preferred.

Experience Requirements

7 years experience working in program management required. 3-5 years experience in a leadership role preferred. 

Special Skill Requirement

Life Insurance Experience highly preferred.
