As IFRS 17 Finance Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and support of IFRS 17 finance and accounting deliveries. This includes providing input to senior management to facilitate key strategic decision making, and working with other functions to understand the effect of financial reporting and accounting policy considerations to deliver joint solutions.

 

FNWL's primary offices are in Bellevue, Washington however this role can be performed remotely anywhere within the U.S. on a long-term basis with occasional travel for onsite collaboration.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure IFRS 17 financial reporting, accounting policies, application guidance, and technical methodologies are well documented and implemented, working alongside other workstreams (e.g. actuarial, data, technology) as necessary.
  • Ensure the development of IFRS 17 financial reporting, accounting policies, and application guidance are consistent with the requirements set by the Group, but also operationally efficient for the company.
  • Work with the business to assemble action/remediation plans to address IFRS 17 financial reporting and accounting policy issues/gaps/deficiencies.
  • Support in designing and delivering targeted training to the business related to IFRS 17 financial reporting and accounting policy application.
  • Work with other functional areas (e.g. actuarial, data, technology and operations) in implementing IFRS 17 financial reporting and accounting policies including remediation of operational issues that arise as part of methodology development, configuration, testing, etc.
  • Ensure that results produced by actuarial models comply with the IFRS 17 accounting policies and application guidance developed.
  • Assist in reviews, audits and other examinations to resolve IFRS 17 finance and accounting related issues
  • Support in the design of controls related to IFRS 17 policy application and support to quality control reviews that confirm to management that processes, procedures, and controls related to accounting policy implementation are effective and operating as designed
  • Lead the preparation of communications and reports to senior management around IFRS 17 technical financial reporting and accounting policy matters

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher 
  • CPA or equivalent

Experience Requirements

  • At least eight years of experience in financial accounting and reporting related role.
  • Knowledge of insurance processes related to accounting, actuarial valuations, operational and financial processes and requirements
  • A track record of leading workstreams as part of an accounting change implementation
  • Strong project management skill – plan projects, meet milestones, and lead team to successful project completion  
  • Knowledge of insurance business lines, programs and external environments
  • Understanding of IFRS 17 requirements and the effects on business functions and technology infrastructure
  • Public Accounting Experience and/or Actuarial consulting firm experience ideal; including opinions, valuation sign offs, and/or complex accounting/actuarial implementation experience 
  • Corporate experience in leading, developing finance and/or actuarial teams ideal (demonstrates strong skills in talent acquisition, development and motivating high performance teams)
  • Economic modeling experience and ability to explain economic results including, but not limited to: Market Consistent Embedded Value; Value New Business
  • Financial economic familiarity: CFO Forum, Sources of Earnings
  • Experience with other similar economic frameworks, for example: Solvency II and/or LDTI

Special Skill Requirement

  • Strong ability to communicate complex accounting concepts and results to different stakeholders
  • Robust and comprehensive understanding of IFRS 17 accounting literature including strong technical aptitude 
  • Understanding of interactions between accounting policy and other areas of the business (e.g. actuarial, data, reporting) 
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; capable of understanding problems and developing practical solutions
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with ambiguity while working on multiple project teams
  • Ability to influence internal and/or external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills including time and resource management
  • A proven record of delivering high quality results while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective leadership skills in a team-oriented environment
