Director- Commercial Product Management

Job Summary

Strategic manager of all aspects of the assigned product for all states. Sets operating standards for growth, service and profitability. Directs a staff of State or Industry Product Managers who work with the Commercial Center Managers, State Executive Directors, Wholesalers and others to meet stated product goals and service standards. Creates market strategies and oversees tactical product and pricing changes in all states in order to maximize growth and profit opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Overall accountability to meet profit and top line growth and profit goals as agreed to with the VP or AVP of the assigned product line.
  • Recruits, develops, trains and supervises individual State or Industry Product Managers.
  • Coordinates with other product executives in the development of product lines and strategies that align with each other to meet customer and distribution force requirements.
  • Consults with the VP of Marketing and Marketing Zone Executives on product marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Reports results to manager and senior level managers on a regular basis and when called upon.
  • Collaborates with Underwriting to make recommendations for underwriting guideline changes and additions including form and coverage changes.
  • Negotiates strategies and sets short and long-term priorities to align product goals with the State Executives.
  • Works with Actuarial to plan and establish countrywide pricing strategies creating growth opportunities while maintaining the necessary profit.
  • Must be able to understand analytical i nformation and presentations to make product decisions.
  • Develops market strategies through class and risk management techniques.
  • Creates product initiatives, rating and filing strategies.
  • Works with the Home Office Claims Department in the review of claim management protocols, state loss trends and large loss reviews.
  • Oversees research of national, state and product industry trends to develop strategies that take advantage of changing markets prior to the competition.
  • Works with the line VP or AVP to develop short and long-term projects.
  • Obtains approval of Senior Management and works with the Project Management Office in the oversight of projects through implementation.
  • Works with IT in the planning, development and implementation of system changes and other automation projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Actions

Physical duties are sedentary but requires mobility to attend meetings at various locations within the main location and traveling to other offices to meet with Home Office Executives, State Executives, Claims Executives, Premium Audit, Loss Control, etc. The ability to lift and/or carrying 10 lbs maximum is necessary.

Physical Environment

Required duties are normally performed in a climate- controlled office environment but the ability to travel in various conditions is required.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required. CPCU preferred.

Experience Requirements

Ten years of product and/or underwriting management experience.

Special Skill Requirement

  • Must be skilled at developing and presenting product knowledge, business plans, and line objectives.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with regulators and other outside parties. Ability to take leadership role in the development and presentation of business plans, line objectives, goals and specific product information to senior level managers.
  • Thorough knowledge in pricing and insurance products.

 

Candidate qualifications may be reviewed against the requirements for the associated levels of this position's core function.  Salary grade will be based on selected candidates' experience and skills
