Job Summary

Assists executive leadership in the supervision, management, and evaluation of the Branch Legal Offices throughout the operating ter ritory. Responsible for the coordination of legal practice procedures in all offices relative to file management and attorney training; and assists in recruiting, hiring, and supervising of Managing Attorneys in each legal office.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists executive leadership on matters relating to the supervision of all Branch Legal Offices, and is directly responsible for the management and operations of Branch Legal Offices within assigned operating territory (division).
  • Ensures legal offices are functioning consistent with established legal procedures for the FIG house counsel operations related to methods of file handling, coordination with the referring Branch Claims Offices, and trial practice.
  • Visits, either in person or virtually as appropriate, all legal offices under their supervision to evaluate legal procedures and methods of file handing, including a review of a random sampling of each attorney's litigation files.
  • Monitors the quality of the legal work done by the attorneys in the legal offices and coordinates resolution of any difficulties which arise between the legal offices and the Claims Department.
  • Evaluates the training requirements of the attorney staff in each legal office, and makes recommendations regarding legal courses, materials, library additions, and bar association memberships.
  • Develops and coordinates all office activity reports to ensure each office is accurately preparing reports in accordance with established procedures.
  • Reviews and analyzes all trial results and caseload reports.
  • Ensures legal offices are compliant with the local state’s ethical requirements, as well as applicable rules and laws of procedure.
  • Works closely with senior leadership in coordinating and implementing Claims Litigation projects and surveys including loss containment programs.
  • Performs special assignments and undertakes additional duties as directed by executive leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Environment

This role, whether performed virtually or in an office setting, operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions. Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (e.g. others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required. Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing of any State Bar required.

Experience Requirements

Eight years of legal practice, including three years of related management experience required.

 

Experience as a Managing Attorney strongly preferred.
