Our hybrid work environment combines the best of both worlds with at least three (3) days in office and up to two (2) days virtual for employees who live within fifty (50) miles of a Farmers corporate office. Job Summary
The Head of AI & Automation is a pivotal role within Farmers, tasked with driving technological innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and maintaining a strategic competitive edge across various business units. This position demands a start-up mentality, bringing maturity and scaling to the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and Lead AI & Automation Department: Pioneer the creation and development of a new AI & Automation department, setting the foundation for future growth and innovation.
- Drive Technological Innovation: Propel technological advancements and operational efficiencies across the organization.
- Shape AI Vision: Develop and implement the group's AI vision, fostering an AI-centric culture within the organization.
- Identify Opportunities: Pinpoint high-value use cases for AI implementation to boost productivity and achieve significant cost savings.
- Prioritizing and working across the enterprise to identify large transformative initiatives for AI.
- Help build an execution team to help deliver on these opportunities.
- Build a robust AI/Automation platform, creating the tools necessary for the team to execute.
- Select Technologies: Choose appropriate technologies and tools for AI and automation implementations.
- Governance and Ethics: Establish robust governance frameworks to ensure ethical AI practices are upheld.
- Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team dedicated to achieving organizational goals.
Essential Job Functions
Lead AI Innovation & Strategy at Farmers Insurance
Identify and Prioritize AI Opportunities:
- Identify and prioritize AI opportunities across Farmers Insurance to enhance operational efficiency, customer experience, and risk management.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools into internal workflows and software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
- Drive the adoption of AI-powered automation to improve productivity and service delivery within various departments across the enterprise.
- Enable Organizational AI Adoption: Develop and deliver internal AI training programs tailored to different roles within Farmers Insurance to build AI literacy and skills.
- Foster AI literacy and evangelize the benefits of AI across the company, ensuring all employees understand the potential and applications of AI in their work.
- Design and implement organizational change initiatives to drive AI adoption, ensuring smooth transitions and buy-in from all stakeholders.
- Measure Impact & Continuous Improvement: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the effectiveness of AI initiatives, ensuring they align with Farmers Insurance's strategic goals.
- Establish feedback loops to continuously refine AI strategies and implementations based on performance data and user feedback.
- Maintain an AI knowledge repository to promote cross-team knowledge sharing and ensure best practices are disseminated throughout the organization.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or related discipline, or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 8–10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in senior roles focused on AI strategy, automation, and digital transformation.
- Proven track record in delivering enterprise-level AI and automation projects with demonstrable outcomes.
- Extensive knowledge of AI technologies including Machine Learning, NLP, Predictive Analytics, Generative AI, RPA and IoT.
- Strong strategic thinking with exceptional project management and leadership capabilities.
- Deep understanding of communication and change management, talent and skills impact, hands-on experience in AI.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and collaborate at the executive level.
Special Skill Requirement
Provide strong technical leadership in AI and ML engineering globally, particularly in areas like NLP, semantic search, summarization, and data-driven product development. Strong background in data architecture, software architecture, and distributed systems, with experience coordinating technical efforts across teams. Proficient in Python, Java, SQL, and other relevant programming languages and tools. Expertise in several areas of automation including workload automation, bid data automation, process automation.
