Job Summary
The Head of Farmers Brokerage & Flood is responsible for working closely with Farmers executive leadership, agents and District Managers to offer access to additional products through other market leading carriers. This position will work with the executive leadership of Personal Lines, Underwriting, Service Ops, Specialty and Commercial lines to understand the current product offerings, align toward a mutual support strategy, and negotiate market solutions with C Suite executives across the industry. This position will provide critical executive consults for product leaders across Farmers. This person will be responsible for providing support to mitigate Farmers catastrophe exposure in key markets. Kraft Lake will provide a positive and predictable service to District Managers and their agents as measured by GWP, PIF and NPS.
Additionally, the establishing of sales/operational targets to support company strategic initiatives in alignment with CEO Additionally, there will be quarterly presentations to the Board of Directors. This person will also represent Farmers on multiple industry boards and government (FEMA, NFIP, IBHS.) This position also has responsibility for Farmers Flood and Farmers Pet divisions. These areas will require leadership across EA and IA channels.
Essential Job Functions
- Create a business vision and strategy that works toward alignment with Farmers core businesses, our agents and DMs. It is critical to align agent needs to external product.
- Collaborate with Heads of Distribution, Personal Lines, Business Insurance and Life to create and execute strategies for profitable growth.
- Actively review and lead contract negotiations and review with outside markets including terms and conditions as well as commission.
- Collaborate with Regional Presidents to accomplish planned growth and support the retail agency program.
- Actively participate in catastrophe mitigation planning, providing product and distribution support.
- Manage multiple businesses from pure profit/loss perspective
- Actively manage delegated underwriting authorities from various companies
- Manage external relationships with vendors to ensure quality and costs are meeting Farmers standards and expectations
- Provide and oversee training and education to Farmers EAs, DMs and BU executives on brokerage solutions.
- Ensure service levels are in place through internal sales/service support team
- Ensure all transactions, policies and procedures are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Represent Farmers and Kraft Lake Agency at external brokerage and industry organizations.
Education Requirements
- Four year college degree from an accredited college or university; attainment of a professional insurance designation (e.g. CPCU) highly desirable.
Experience Requirements
- 10+ years insurance experience including personal lines, commercial lines and excess and surplus lines; background in Marketing/Distribution strategy preferred.
- Experience successfully managing P&L for growth and profit.
Physical Actions

Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (example others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to continuously operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.
