Job Summary

  • Farmers is continuing to invest and grow its analytics capabilities.  To do this we are creating a new team to help with internal analytics driven business consulting for our sales groups.  Come join the team and help Farmers continue to improve our ability to grow and serve the US insurance market.  The team will focus on sales of Auto and Home insurance for our three sales channels:  digital, call centers and agents.
  • Responsible for developing business segment, function, and process knowledge, an understanding of business-area data and advanced analytics to successfully implement solutions that improves profitable growth. Provides collaborative support for planning, development, testing, implementation, and monitoring predictive or prescriptive analytics solutions to strategic business problems and drive home future innovation.
  • Performs data and statistical analyses to answer strategic questions and to identify opportunities to advance strategic priorities. Combines data with business/IT process understanding to recommend solutions for business opportunities.
  • Supports multiple distribution channels e.g., call centers, digital, and agents with an objective of increasing acquisition, retention, cross-selling, profitability, operational efficiency and agency development by executing advanced analytic projects.
  • Regularly engages with executive leadership to provide analytics-based consultation and recommendations that guide and support the strategic direction. The individual would be responsible for tailoring the message appropriate for the audience while being confident

Essential Job Functions

  • Answers complex business problems through data analysis and by combining knowledge of insurance business and data sources. Performs data/statistical analyses and business process analysis to drive business insights.  Is self-sufficient in data acquisition/analysis including repeated analysis framework development
  • Engages with business leaders to understand needs and proactively identify and anticipate opportunities. Develops storytelling presentations slides with data for senior leadership consumption.  Provides analytical consultation and recommendations to executive leadership
  • Analyzes and reporting adverse trends to business leaders
  • Identifies requirement for data enhancements needed to improve analytics and/or data process in the future. Takes leadership role in special data and analytical projects, as assigned. Negotiates and sets priorities with IT and BI resources to align projects with company goals.
  • Executes against project plans or agile user stories on time and effectively communicates the status of analytical solutions to key stakeholders.
  • Enjoys collaboration with both analytics and business teams
  • Coordinates and leads team members on projects which will typically include 1-2 analysts. Helps coach/mentor analysts for their personal development

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor preferred in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.

Experience Requirements

  • Two to four years of leadership experience as a 1st or 2nd level leader to a team of direct reports. Five to seven years of relevant advanced analytics experience (similar to Pairwise tests, linear and logistic regression, chi-squared, survey response confidence intervals, decision trees, random forrest, and Bayesian statistics).

Special Skill Requirement

  • Good data visualization skills
  • Can develop PowerPoint presentations with technical/business details for sr. executives
  • Ability to create effective business partner relationships
  • Strong technical skills in data and statistical analysis
  • Ability to develop hypotheses for data analysis to develop business insights
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database architecture and data querying.  Can leverage ETL to succeed with modestly complex data pulls; can design simple data structures
  • Possesses technical skills that include advanced Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, Snowflake, S3, could environments, BI tools such as Power BI; Python is helpful as well
  • Can develop business process maps and process understanding
  • Can develop complex analytics project plans and execute independently
  • Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, dynamic environment. Ability to quickly learn business operations and processes including insurance industry terms and structure
  • Ability to mentor and coach team members
