Job Summary

The APEX team is seeking a strong product owner to help elevate our Salesforce CRM. This person will work independently; leading key areas of product development using Agile practices including: managing the backlog, anticipating and prioritizing needs, guiding development, coordinating with stakeholders, and tracking progress. They will act as the customer representative, partnering closely with business owners and stakeholders to handle a high volume of complex work with minimal support.
 
The right candidate will develop a deep understanding of the business vision in order to drive execution, influence requirements, shape the Product Manager’s roadmap, and introduce new tools and practices that support continuous improvement. This role also provides leadership and mentorship to junior members of the Product Owner team and may serve as backup to the Product Manager when needed.

Essential Job Functions

  • Uses basic scientific and iterative practices to plan, test, adjust, and improve work.
  • Manages and prioritizes the team’s backlog based on business value and dependencies.
  • Serves as the main quality gatekeeper, approving when work is complete.
  • Applies strong business knowledge and communication skills to anticipate and solve problems.
  • Works across teams in a self‑organizing way to complete tasks and maintain an effective backlog.
  • Leads process and procedure changes with internal teams and external partners.
  • Uses critical thinking to decide how and when product features should be developed.
  • Acts as the main link between stakeholders, end users, and the team to ensure stories meet expectations.
  • Ensures all stakeholders collaborate on decisions and that developers receive clear direction.
  • Owns the full process and final product, ensuring alignment with goals and vision.
  • Helps prioritize the program backlog, manage dependencies, and evaluate progress each iteration.
  • Identifies and mitigates program risks.
  • Leads PO/ART sync meetings and system demos.
  • Facilitates Inspect & Adapt workshops to improve quality across teams.
  • Helps define iteration goals and drives execution and delivery.
  • Partners with business owners to understand needs, manage scope, and refine user stories.
  • Communicates requirements clearly and collaborates with the team to negotiate dependencies.
  • Works closely with the Product Manager to align on goals, vision, and decision‑making.
  • Plays a major role in PI planning, story definition, estimation, and sequencing.
  • Oversees product development activities including planning, refinement, review, and execution.
  • Partners with stakeholders to plan upcoming iterations and clarify questions.
  • Participates in team ceremonies to refine processes and support execution.
  • Keeps end‑user needs at the center to ensure solutions meet expectations.
  • Represents business interests and prioritizes stories to maximize team capacity.
  • Mentors junior Product Owners.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • SAFe Product Owner certified (within 180 days of hire) required.

Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience in an Agile environment. 3-5 years experience in Product Owner role or minimum 1 year as a PO II.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Ability to effectively handle multiple Agile teams as needed.

Physical Environment

This position operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions. Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (e.g. others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.
