Job Summary

The Infrastructure Shared Services (ISS) organization’s overall responsibility is to ensure the availability of over 100+ applications used by Farmers’ agents, customers, and customer service advocates nationally.  Within ISS is the Automation team.  As a member of Automation, you will be actively collaborating with Architecture, DevOps, Production Support, Cloud and Site reliability engineers to develop patterns, templates, and standards for Automation. You will also take what you learn from Incident, Problem and Change management and monitoring tools to drive more resiliency into our systems through automated solutions.  No technology is out of bounds for this team so we are looking for candidates that have an expertise in at least one application or infrastructure technology and who can also understand the bigger technology ecosystem that makes our business apps run.

Essential Job Functions

  • Build automation solutions to monitor system health and reliability to support high uptime requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT stakeholders to understand how automation can improve business workflows.
  • Partner with DevOps, Application, Infrastructure, Network and Telecom teams to design and implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) stacks meeting needs of the applications leveraging technologies (i.e. Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
  • When business critical applications aren’t operating at expected availability levels, dig into why that is and get it fixed.  You’ll be expected to know the application KPIs, what influences those KPIs and be able identify enhancements to bring service levels back to acceptable levels.
  • Construct, improve and maintain the automated deployment pipelines.
  • Maintain in-depth documentation of activities and system configuration.
  • Provide level 4 support when the teams triaging incidents need your expertise.


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline OR commensurate experience.

Experience Requirements

  • Technical expertise –must demonstrate the ability to understand large scale IT ecosystems and the ability to associate business processes to the IT systems supporting them.  Should have at least one strong area of technical expertise in areas like software development, infrastructure, performance engineering, or web systems.
  • Automation and Scripting – Proficiency with ANY of the following languages & frameworks: Java, C#, Python, JavaScript, linux shells and pipeline automation tools (i.e. Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.) are a plus.
  • Experience working with automation frameworks and tools similar to Selenium/Appium, UFT, and Cucumber.
  • Performance monitoring tools – Experience with Splunk, AppDynamics, Splunk ITSI Event Correlation or similar tools required.  Other monitoring tool experience (SevOne, Cloudwatch, ThousandEyes) would be a plus.
  • Cloud based technologies – Experience with popular cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Experience managing tasks and defects using products similar to Jira, Rally, or Pivotal Tracker.
  • Exporsure within a DevOps culture and highly collaborative approach.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodology and tooling, including continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • A strong commitment of providing solid, robust and dynamic automation capabilities through Self-education, peer consultation, mentor guidance, and formal training.
  • Possess confident analytical, creative, problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • A love for using data to drive decisions to help build better patterns and solutions.



  • Farmers offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications and location
  • CO Only: The pay range for this job being performed in CO would be $82k -110k DOE
