Job Summary

•    Leads Farmers New World Life’s Actuarial Modeling and Assumptions team
•    Responsible for accurate and timely delivery of monthly MG-ALFA model enhancements and annual best estimate and prudent assumption updates
•    Committed to governance, proactively seeks to enhance processes and controls
•    Excels at cross-team and cross-location collaboration
•    Serves as a change agent within the actuarial community and across the company

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads the accurate and timely delivery of monthly MG-ALFA model enhancements and annual best estimate and prudent assumption updates             
  • Integrates with the actuarial community and the broader business to share outcomes, assess opportunities, and implement learnings to enhance the value of the business
  • Designs training material and coaches staff to provide growth opportunities
  • Manage auditable model controls, output reconciliations and process documentation. Responsible for the timely delivery of any remediation activities.
  • Works independently to develop and implement appropriate solutions to ad-hoc actuarial issues.
  • Maintains actuarial valuation systems to be consistent with End-User computer standards, including required changes as necessary due to IT system changes, product changes, and regulation changes. 
  • Collaborates with IT to ensure new ZFS/FIG/FNWL processes and procedures are correctly reflected in the actuarial valuation systems. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Actions

Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (e.g. others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.

Physical Environment

This position operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements in order to sign public statements of actuarial opinion.

Experience Requirements

  • Five years of actuarial experience including two years as a Managing Actuary, ASA or Staff Actuary or the equivalent.
  • At least five years of actuarial experience, preferably including managerial experience
  • Deep experience with life and annuity products as well as actuarial modeling software, preferably MG-ALFA, and data science techniques 
  • Understanding and working knowledge of various reporting bases (IFRS, STAT/PBR, MCEV, SST)

Special Skill Requirement

•    Strong ability to communicate complex actuarial analyses and results
•    Experience working with business stakeholders to utilize actuarial and data science techniques, analyze results from model runs, and implement updates and enhancements to tools
•    Strong understanding of the impact between actuarial methodology and data requirements/availability
•    Ability to perform ad hoc analyses, measure results, and communicate actionable insights to decision makers
•    Strong process improvement, automation, simplification and standardization skills
•    Effective leadership skills in a team-oriented environment
•    Lead through change by driving strategy in ambiguous situations



Candidate qualifications may be reviewed against the requirements for the associated levels of this position's core function. Salary grade will be based on selected candidates' experience and skills.



  • Farmers offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, qualifications and location
  • CO Only: The pay range for this job being performed in CO would be $133,040 - $177,300
