About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Data Engineer to play an integral role in the development of Farmers Enterprise Operational Data Staging capabilities by providing thought leadership and performing a variety of tasks that guide and position data-intensive projects/programs for success. This is accomplished by understanding data requirements, coordinating work across IT, and ensuring resources are following appropriate practices and enterprise standards. This role may also be tasked to present experience and learning from various projects to/from the current, future, and past to enable a continuous improvement mindset within the data space.  You will be part of an organization focusing on the development and delivery of data strategies and solutions that enable Farmers Tactical, Analytical and Digital Application functions and services. The successful candidate is motivated by strategic/big-picture thinking, is technically proficient, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Deliver Data Engineering capabilities for streaming and batch-based data ingestion, conformance, and enrichment
•    Enable Data Quality for complex data sets
•    Build and operate tools, services, and infrastructure we use to align, store, and provision the data for both logical and physical models
•    Contribute to, and execute on roadmap strategy and conceptual design changes/enhancements, including cost/benefit assessments, legacy streamlining, and continuous improvement components
•    Partner closely with cloud adoption, architecture, and business stakeholder teams to create scalable, future-proof solutions
•    Work in a fast-paced environment to deliver results
•    Provide engineering expertise to the quarterly and annual planning exercises
•    Ensure data capabilities offer reliable high-quality data with consistent SLAs with good monitoring, alerting and incident response and continual investment to reduce tech-debt
•    Coordinating with supplier teams for task assignment, code reviews, knowledge transition sessions, and operational activities

Required Skills

•    Computer Science or Engineering background – Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field preferred 
•    5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer
•    4+ years hands-on experience in ETL tools (Informatica PowerCenter or IDMC preferred), with demonstrated ability to performance tune and optimize programs
•    In-depth understanding of operational data staging environments, data modeling principles (including Data Vault), and data warehousing concepts
•    Solid understanding of effective AWS cloud computing principles
•    Passion for building infrastructure that is reliable, easy to use and easy to maintain
•    Experience with development tools, CI/CD processes, GIT, and Agile methodologies
•    Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases
•    Good written and oral skills in local language
•    Effective problem solving and time management skills
•    Ability to explain complex concepts/issues in simple terms
•    Ability to identify and appropriately escalate issues/risks to management for direction
•    You keep up with the industry trends and continuously identify new tools to use to solve technical problems
 

Preferred Skills

•    Experience in insurance or financial services industries
•    Exposure to Document DB tools such as ElasticSearch 
•    Experience with Mainframe Application Programming
•    Experience with ERWIN or similar data modeling tools
•    Experience with JSON services or IIB-ACE integrations
•    Experience with Guidewire 
•    Experience with OBIEE, PowerBI or other reporting technologies

 

Reports directly to the Enterprise Data Staging Director

  • CO Only: The pay range for this job being performed in CO would be $90,800- 121,000
