Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer will be responsible for the creating and maintaining automation(s) using a variety of tools, to support availability, patching and data protection for Farmers IT systems. As a Farmers Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will work in conjunction with internal technical teams and vendors, implementing and improving systems for existing and future state.  You will development and deploy automation(s) (writing scripts and using tools) to create and enhance existing pipelines, increasing our overall readiness and availability and continued improvement on our security posture.

Essential Job Functions

• Combine software and systems engineering principles to aid in the design of large-scale fault-tolerant systems that adhere to our standards
• Create automation(s) to increase security hardening and decrease time to deploy patches and close vulnerabilities
• Create automation(s) for systems to promote self-healing and auto-scaling
• Create automation(s) for systems to enhance CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application components
• Assist with deployment and maintenance of containerized systems and platforms
• Perform coaching to junior engineers and other teams outside of Reliability Engineering
• Create interfaces between systems using API’s to allow for seamless integrations
• Create and maintain runbooks, automation playbooks, and support documentation for availability and Disaster Recovery
• Identify and create automations to rectify issues discovered as part of incident process and RCA’s
• Assists in establishing and reporting of performance metrics and SLA’s
• Participate in an on-call rotational schedule with other team members
• Execute or oversee, performance enhancements to existing systems
• Schedule, perform or oversee, regular systems maintenance and create automations to reduce manual involvement
• Review of solutions with Architects and other engineers, assisting with design to meet standards
• Contributes to the development of strategies, policies, and best practices through participation in team meetings and other direct contributions

Education Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required
• BS/BA Computer Science or Management Information Systems preferred, or related degree, or an equivalent combination of experience (5-7 years), and relevant professional certifications
• Technical Certifications, Cloud, Wintel, Linux/UNIX are a plus

Experience Requirements

• 5-7 years of IT industry hands on experience Site Reliability, Platform Engineering
• 5+ years of OS administration experience supporting including Linux and/or Windows
• 3+ years working experience in Cloud infrastructure i.e., AWS, Azure, or GCP
• 3+ yrs automation scripting and playbook creation with tools like Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, etc.
• Strong problem-solving skills and troubleshooting techniques
• Strong communication and documentation skills
