This IA Zone Operations Director position will represent the Foremost® and Bristol West® Insurance brands – which are both part of the Farmers Insurance Group® – in the Independent Agent (IA) Channel.

Job Summary

  • In partnership with the Zone Executive Director and Executive Management is responsible for recruiting, managing and coaching the development of a highly skilled, professional sales staff.
  • Responsible for the operational results for all products within the assigned territory, developing and executing distribution strategic plans that will generate short and long-term profitable growth.
  • Manages the development of a network of distribution channel partners who distribute the maximum available insurance products in the portfolio.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training and coaching of field Sales staff; participates in making staffing and resource determinations for the assigned territory.
  • Evaluate field travel needs versus identified opportunities to assure productivity effectiveness.
  • Assist in the development and responsible for driving the execution of short and long-term business and strategic plans for Personal Lines, including Specialty Lines; Commercial Lines; products within the territory of operation measured by premium, production, expense, loss and resulting profit.
  • Responsible for the acquisition and development of new accounts and the development and maintenance of the profitability and growth of assigned territory through prospecting, training, maintaining of competitor data, development and execution of distribution plans, commission management.
  • Responsible for the initiation, positioning, and distribution of products and product enhancements available in the assigned territory.
  • Responsible for the successful implementation of all rate and product changes.
  • Responsible for identifying market trends and use of quantitative knowledge to affect future products and rate changes.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of state and individual account action plans to maintain and ensure the profitable growth of all products in the territory.
  • Provides overall leadership and guidance to their assigned Zone to ensure long-term profitability and competitiveness.
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of all competitive, legislative and regulatory activity within assigned territory; maintains current knowledge and understanding of industry as related to agencies, agency vendors and customers.
  • Assists in automation training, seminar training and system issues.
  • Develops individual account plans and key account business alliances.
  •  Responsible for regular, clear, concise and consistent communication to field staff and Independent Agent channel partners.
  • Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • MBA preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Five years insurance experience.
  • Marketing experience preferred.

  • Proven organizational, written and oral communication, decision making, leadership and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven coaching, mentoring abilities.
  • Proven abilities of execution and achievement of successful results.
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including various agency management systems and comparative raters.
  • Position requires strong leadership, change management, critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to plan and manage time.
  • It also requires the ability to plan both strategically and tactically.
  • Being able to analyze financial results (market trends) is also important relative to managing performance and change with our products and pricing.

Physical Actions

  • Besides sedentary work, job duties require some or all of the following physical activities: Carrying and lifting up to 20 pounds, hearing, seeing, standing and walking, reaching, and speaking.

Physical Environment

  • Required job duties are normally performed in a climate- controlled office environment, with moderate exposure to uncontrolled outside environmental conditions and travel via automobile and/or commercial transportation.
