Job Summary

The Senior Decision Science Manager will be a critical member of the Advanced Modeling & Analytics team responsible for Farmers Insurance’s efforts to develop an analytically driven marketing investment optimization strategy. In this role, the Sr Manager will provide analytical support to Farmers’ internal marketing organization and external media agencies to evaluate new marketing strategies and drive continuous improvement across online and offline media channels. Combining the knowledge of advanced analytical techniques, as well as a solid aptitude for the media and data landscape, this member will oversee Farmers’ incrementality testing practice, as well as develop innovative measurement roadmaps, and implement cutting-edge analytic solutions. The role mentors, trains, and coaches less experienced team members and supervises direct reports who are individual contributors with small span of control. The position performs work independently while receiving guidance and coaching in only the most complex situations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee testing strategies against large media investments, including the execution of best-in-class testing frameworks, management of evergreen learning agendas, and the development and delivery of actionable insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.  
  • Oversee the execution of marketing experiments across online and offline media through incrementality testing in partnership with Farmers’ Marketing team, using a hypothesis-driven approach to testing.
  • Act as primary analytic liaison between Farmers and major digital ecosystem partners, including Meta, Amazon, and Google; establish and foster strong partnerships with these digital ecosystems to leverage cutting-edge data and analytic solutions that measure Farmers’ new marketing strategies and advise on intra-media optimization opportunities to maximize marketing efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Partner closely with other Marketing Analytics peers to create a closed-loop system between incrementality testing and ongoing marketing mix modeling efforts.
  • Provide thought leadership and strategic thinking to translate business problems into analytical framework(s) and independently recommend actions to improve business performance.
  • Perform quality checks on analytic output to ensure validity and business sense.
  • Responsible for developing and presenting statistically sound marketing performance analysis and high-quality executive-level readouts to senior stakeholders.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and 7 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 4 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 3 years’ experience in a related field; or 10 years’ experience in a related field.

Experience Requirements

  • 7+ years of work experience required in data analysis, statistical or mathematical modeling, or related.
  • Experience in a people leader or management role required.
  • Experience in insurance industry preferred.
  • Proven leader in marketing measurement working in Digital analytics, Marketing analytics, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing teams, establishing strategic priorities, and mentoring members to generate actionable insights.
  • Solid knowledge of the digital media landscape as it pertains to advertising platforms (Google, Meta, TikTok, Amazon, etc.) as well as the evolving digital data landscape.
  • Experience applying causal inference tools (Difference-in-Differences, synthetic controls, propensity score matching) to real-life problems.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of experimental A/B test design & execution, analytic processes, predictive modeling, tools and technologies to drive solution development at scale.  Be able to translate business requirements to analytical framework.
  • Ability to tell stories with data, educate effectively, and instill confidence, motivating stakeholders to act on recommendations.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet objectives and key deadlines, balancing short- & long-term strategic implications to meet business objectives.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills to analyze and identify discrepancies within sophisticated models and effectively give guidance to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to manage up, and proactively communicate key progress updates and potential roadblocks.
  • Demonstrates highly effective cross-functional leadership and experience effectively collaborating with internal and external cross-functional stakeholder.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and is comfortable presenting to large groups.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to adapt to the situation, be flexible, resourceful, and agile in terms of work planning, and the ability to think quickly on your feet.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in a related discipline strongly desired (i.e., Marketing, Analytics, Business, etc. MBA)
  • 4 or more years of experience in leading complex, cross-functional projects
  • Strong programming skills and ability to utilize a variety of data/analytic software/languages/tools such as SQL, Python or R, and PowerBI
  • Experience in insurance industry desired

Physical Actions

Job is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. The physical work environment is indoors and climate-controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation. Normal and customary distractions include background noise produced by office equipment and chatter among people, as well as interruptions. Possesses adequate hearing, with or without correction, to communicate with co-workers, respond promptly to auditory signals or alarms, and discern sounds essential for maintaining safety and productivity in the workplace.
