Job Summary

  • Farmers Insurance is seeking a Mail & Messaging, Identity, Security & Compliance Product Owner to lead the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of critical enterprise services across messaging, identity, collaboration, and compliance. This role within the Collaboration Platform Engineering (CPE) team is responsible for ensuring resilient, secure, and compliant capabilities spanning Microsoft 365 Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Entra ID, eDiscovery, legal hold, SMTP relay, and Proofpoint mail security. 
  • The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader with deep hands-on expertise in mail flow, Teams collaboration, identity, compliance, and security controls, strong command of SAFe Agile delivery practices, and proven experience balancing platform reliability, risk management, and business enablement. You will serve as the voice of the customer, drive platform modernization and governance, and own the product strategy for enterprise mail, collaboration, identity, and compliance services. 

 Product Strategy & Roadmap 

  • Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and roadmap for enterprise messaging, identity, and compliance services, including Exchange Online, Entra ID, SMTP relay, mail routing, Proofpoint, eDiscovery, and legal hold capabilities. 
  • Define and manage the Agile Release Train (ART) roadmap for mail, identity, and compliance value streams, ensuring alignment with enterprise business priorities, regulatory obligations, and cyber risk reduction goals. 
  • Develop and maintain Lean Business Cases for epics and features related to service resiliency, platform modernization, compliance readiness, and security enhancements in partnership with Architecture, Security, and Portfolio leadership. 
 

SAFe Agile Delivery 

  •  Operate as a senior Product Owner within the SAFe Agile framework, guiding teams through PI Planning, backlog refinement, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt ceremonies. 
  • Translate operational, security, and compliance requirements into prioritized features and user stories, ensuring teams focus on the highest-value platform outcomes. 

  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery practices, platform stability, automation, and service supportability across messaging and identity services. 

Messaging, Identity & Mail Security 

 
  • Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for Exchange Online mail flow, transport rules, connectors, SMTP relay, shared mailboxes, distribution lists, Microsoft Teams administration, and integrated collaboration services. 

  • Own the product strategy and lifecycle for Microsoft Entra ID capabilities relevant to messaging, Teams, and access, including identity integration, authentication dependencies, directory-driven access, and lifecycle controls. 

  • Lead the roadmap and operational governance for Proofpoint mail security, including inbound and outbound mail routing, filtering integrations, connector strategy, mail hygiene, and secure mail flow design. 

  • Partner with Security, Architecture, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure messaging, Teams, and identity services meet enterprise requirements for resiliency, data protection, access governance, and incident response. 

Compliance, eDiscovery & Legal Hold 

  • Lead product ownership for Microsoft Purview eDiscovery and legal hold capabilities, including case workflows, preservation strategies, role-based access alignment, and operational readiness. 

  • Define governance standards and support models for legal hold, retention, inactive mailbox handling, and defensible data preservation in partnership with Legal, Records Management, Privacy, and Security stakeholders. 

  • Oversee intake, prioritization, and lifecycle management for compliance-related enhancements, ensuring solutions meet audit, regulatory, and litigation support requirements. 

Business Value Realization & Metrics 

 
  • Define, track, and report KPIs and service health metrics for messaging, identity, and compliance platforms, including service availability, mail flow reliability, security posture, incident trends, and operational efficiency. 

  • Partner with Security, Risk, and Audit teams to measure control effectiveness, remediation progress, and compliance readiness across supported services. 

  • Produce executive-level updates, QBRs, and PI Planning materials that clearly communicate roadmap status, platform risk, key dependencies, and business impact to senior leadership. 

  • Drive value through service standardization, automation, reduced operational overhead, and improved user experience across enterprise messaging and identity capabilities. 

Change Management & Adoption 

 
  • Design and execute change management, communication, and operational readiness plans for messaging, identity, and compliance platform changes, including service introductions, migrations, control changes, and deprecations. 

  • Collaborate with Service Desk, Engineering, Security Operations, Legal, and business stakeholders to ensure changes are well understood, supported, and successfully adopted. 

  • Champion best practices for secure mail usage, identity hygiene, and compliance processes through clear guidance, stakeholder engagement, and repeatable support models. 

  • Leverage feedback from incidents, audits, and end users to continuously improve the platform experience and reduce operational friction. 

Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Leadership 

 
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with leaders across Infrastructure, Security, Legal, Privacy, Records Management, Risk, Audit, and business operations. 

  • Serve as the primary product liaison between business stakeholders, engineering teams, architecture, vendors, and operational support teams for messaging, identity, and compliance services. 

  • Communicate platform vision, roadmap, risks, incidents, and dependencies with clarity and confidence to both technical teams and executive audiences. 

Experience Requirements

  • 7-10 years Product and/or Operations Management experience or related experience required. 2 years experience in PM II or similar role preferred. 5-7 years leadership experience preferred.
  • 7+ years of product ownership, product management, or equivalent platform leadership experience, with significant responsibility for enterprise messaging, collaboration, identity, security, or compliance services. 

  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Microsoft 365 Exchange Online, including mail flow, connectors, transport rules, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, SMTP relay, and service troubleshooting. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, including collaboration governance, policy management, meeting and messaging controls, and integration points across Microsoft 365. 

Experience Requirements (Continued)

  • In-depth experience with Microsoft Entra ID, including directory services, identity lifecycle dependencies, access governance concepts, and integration with Microsoft 365 workloads. 

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Purview eDiscovery, legal hold, retention, and compliance operations, including collaboration with Legal and Security teams on defensible preservation and case support. 

  • Experience managing or partnering on Proofpoint mail security capabilities, including mail routing, filtering, connector integration, and operational governance 

  • Proven track record of translating complex operational, risk, and compliance requirements into prioritized roadmaps, features, KPIs, and executive communications. 

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with hybrid messaging environments, legacy mail systems, and migration strategies to Exchange Online. 

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams governance and administration, including meeting policies, messaging policies, external access, guest access, app governance, and lifecycle controls. 

  • Experience with email security and hygiene controls such as Exchange Online Protection, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, DKIM, DMARC, SPF, and secure mail routing patterns. 

Preferred Qualifications (Continued)

  • Experience supporting regulatory, audit, legal, or internal investigation workflows involving eDiscovery, holds, retention, and records preservation across mail and collaboration data. 

  • Strong background in automation and operational efficiency, including scripting, reporting, and process standardization for messaging, Teams, and identity services 

  • Familiarity with vendor management, change control, and enterprise support models for business-critical collaboration and security platforms. 

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. SAFe Product Manager Certified within 180 days of hire required.
  • SAFe Agile certification (SAFe PM/PO, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent) with demonstrated experience operating within a scaled agile environment.
