About the role...
This is a people leadership role, reporting to the Head of Countrywide Product and Actuarial for Bristol West. This role is responsible for the reserving, forecasting, and pricing for a geographic region, performing hands-on analysis of assigned states, as well as guiding direct reports through similar analyses for their assigned states. Bristol West is a growing and profitable business unit within the Farmers Insurance enterprise. We specialize in nonstandard personal auto and light local monoline commercial auto. The two lines of business combined are just under $3 billion in gross written premium. We have a data driven, dynamic, and results-focused culture and the actuarial team is a key strategic partner in helping the leadership and product teams deliver on our financial objectives.
What you'll accomplish...
• Conducts quarterly reserving, forecasting, and rate indication analyses for assigned states
• Oversees direct reports’ reserving, forecasting, and rate indication analyses
• Interacts with Claims, Product, and other key business partners, as well as monitors economic and industry data to better understand trends and pattern changes in the data
• Helps Bristol West leadership and the product team manage the loss ratio and make rate decisions that will contribute to achieving our financial objectives
• Performs other supporting analyses. Examples include CAT loads, Seasonality, Tail Analysis, Expected vs Actual, Credibility Standards, and diagnosis of unusual results or data patterns
• Identifies and implements opportunities for improving the efficiency or accuracy of our processes, methodologies, and diagnostic reports
• Performs other functions as assigned.
Physical actions...
- Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10 lbs. maximum.
- Functional ability of seeing, hearing, and speaking is required.
Physical environment...
Required job duties are normally performed at home or in a climate controlled office environment, with occasional travel by car or airplane.
Education needed...
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS).
Experience needed...
Eight years Actuarial experience, including two years as an Associate or Assistant Actuary.
Special skills needed...
- Experience in any of the following: Excel, VBA, SAS, SQL, Python, R.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to secure 'buy-in' and convince others regarding best approach.
- Goal oriented team player with a positive attitude.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Strong relationship building.
