Job Summary
- This position is responsible for individual property new and /renewal risk selection and home valuation by leveraging vendor inspection reports, aerial imagery as well as other sources.
- Communicates with internal and external customers to provide them a clear understanding around underwriting philosophies, guidelines, and expectations relating individual property risk decisions.
- Acts as a subject matter expert to support peer learning and growth, as well as providing observations and insights to improve field communications, online resources and to inform future underwriting strategy.
- Utilizes in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of property contract and coverages that are impacted by reconstruction cost estimates (RCE) and insurance to value (ITV) and a strong understanding of AI models that support property underwriting.
Essential Job Functions
- Evaluates and determines new and renewal risk eligibility for home policies by applying the current acceptable maintenance and condition expectations (AMCE), as well as personal underwriting judgement for information found in the physical inspection of the property, aerial imagery, other available tools, and data sources.
- Validates the accuracy of home replacement cost submitted by the agency and assessed by the inspection vendor to ensure the appropriate rate classification of risk by using all available resources and updating the policy as needed. Responds to agent, customer and licensed staff inquiries through chat or email regarding specific inspection decisions, general inspection questions, and remediated AMCE underwriting concerns.
- Regularly shares observations, insights and learnings of underwriting new and renewal inspections and replacement cost evaluations with underwriting and product leadership to inform future inspection guidelines and strategies.
- Builds personal and team skill sets by participating in inspection calibration sessions, business review meetings, and underwriting business meetings. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Actions
- This role, whether performed virtually or in an office setting, will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions. Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (example others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to continuously operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience Requirements
- 1-3 years of Underwriting/Property inspection experience highly preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant insurance industry experience required.
