Application Test Specialist

Job Summary

Agile Development Team Members have collective responsibility for the design, development, testing and/or deployment of system functionality.  Agile Development Team Members with primarily a testing discipline ensures the end product meets the business acceptance criteria and non-functional requirements. Defines and executes tests early, often, and at multiple levels depending on their level of experience. Based on their business products, processes and system knowledge, they provide broad level of thinking for exceptions and other unexpected ways users may interact with systems. Utilizes intermediate testing techniques and tools.

Essential Job Functions

 You have a passion for testing and learning new skills, tools, and technologies.  You demonstrate understanding of customer needs, interpret those needs into viable solutions, and effectively write and refine user stories to deliver new solutions.  You get excited in exploring and finding creative ways to test applications and leverage automation or new tools. You have knowledge of software test design and testing methodologies. You enjoy working in an agile development process with frequent releases. You are open to learning new business domains, new ideas and build test automation around it. You like collaborating with multiple stakeholders, Developers, Product Owners in pursuit of ensuring product quality meeting our customer and business needs. You write reliable, readable tests which are fully documented. You write clear and detail defect report when things break and work with team for its resolution. You take ownership and responsibilities for your deliverables. You love problem solving and exploring alternative techniques. You have good communication and presentation skills. You are able to grasp difficult concepts and complex designs, stay on top of new and emerging technologies, while also understanding legacy mainframe applications.  You perform broad and detailed impact assessments relating people, processes, and/or technology.   

Physical Actions

Sits or stands for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Occasionally moves, lifts, carries, and places objects and supplies weighing 0-10 pounds without assistance. Listens to, interprets, and differentiates auditory information (e.g. others speaking) at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Visually verifies and reads information. Visually locates material, resources and other objects. Ability to operate a computer for extended periods of time, up to a full work shift. Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate keyboard and other office equipment up to a full work shift.

Physical Environment

This position operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred. SAFe Practitioner or SAFe Agilist Certification within 180 days of hire required.

Experience Requirements



  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in application testing or overall experience in IT. 
  • SAFe Practitioner or SAFe Agilist Certification within 180 days of hire required.  Minimum 1 year as a Agile Dev Team Member I or 3 + years in a related field required.


Special Skill Requirement

  • 3-4+ years of experience in Software QA/Testing.
  • Performs work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Takes initiative and is a self-starter.
  • Experience using testing tools, such as data creation, running batch processes, and test automation tools.  
  • Experience in developing, documenting, executing, and maintaining test cases and test data.
  • Experience reporting status of test plan execution through defect logs and defect tracking system.    
  • Experience analyzing system and business requirements for testability, identifying complex errors that occur in standard application testing.   
  • Experience working with stakeholders to understand business needs, partnering with developers to design solutions, and demoing the end products.   
  • Experience with system reliability, objective quality results and quality metrics.

Additional Qualification

  • Experience in Insurance Industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with Java, PEGA, Mainframe and other technologies.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development, Behavior Driven Development and Exploratory testing preferred.
  • Experience in working with Testing tools such as SoapUI, Postman, RESTAssured, TestIM and databases such as MongoDB.
  • Expertise in test automation framework using Selenium WebDriver
  • Configuration Management Tool experience in Git and GitHub.
  • Ability to write SQL, gather data/logs and other technical configurations when needed.   
  • Exposure to Rally.
