Business Analysis Supervisor

Job Summary

  • This role works with Management and sponsors on recommended strategy to achieve business results.
  • Works directly with Leadership both sponsoring an initiative and with other supporting departments in identifying improvement opportunities, initiatives and solutions focused on people, process, product, risk, expense and growth.
  • Provide an analysis of a company’s value stream or departmental business practices for improvement and goal achievement.
  • They own the research of existing activity, data mining, business design approach, improvement recommendations, and measurement of pre and post deployment key metrics to determine if improvement is achieved.
  • Work with sponsor to socialize the change and act as an intermediate and liaison for the sponsor throughout the improvement implementation while collaborating with project teams, other stakeholders, and IT to implement the recommended improvements.  
  • Takes the lead in several areas of product development by following the principles of Agile to manage the team backlog, anticipate and prioritize needs, oversee development stages, act as a primary liaison, and evaluate product progress. Serves as the customer proxy; works collaboratively with business owners and other stakeholders to accomplish these tasks. Utilizes basic understanding of the business vision and requires frequent support and direction from the Product Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Analysis - Manage and perform analysis for direction setting, decision making and project requirements:
  • Analysis of internal processes and business practices
  • Data mining from internal and possible external sources
  • Analysis of data, processes, patterns and trends
  • Business Risk analysis Strategic
  • Develop strategies to achieve key leadership objectives and opportunities.


This includes:

  • Management of strategy development teams and activities
  • Research of industry trends
  • Competitor analysis -Opportunity recommendations and options Tactical
  • Manage specific efforts to achieve business goals. 
  • Constraint evaluation by review of Internal activates for contradictory, parallel or possible alignment to existing proposed solution
  • Development of model for control and measurement
  • Business benefit model and calculation method Integrates as closely as possible to the assigned business unit to continue to develop, understand the departmental needs and function while looking for opportunity.
  • Attends conferences, seminars and related industry user groups to maintain awareness of industry trends and business opportunities to foster growth, expense savings and achieve the goals of the organization. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides ongoing refinement of team backlog, coordinates dependencies and manages the inspection and evaluation of product progress through each iteration. Participates in PO and/or ART sync meetings in addition to the system demo to show critical aspects of the solution Participates in Inspect & Adapt (I&A) workshop to work across teams to define and
  • Implement improvement stories to increase program quality.
  • A key member of the Agile team who utilizes perspective to define iteration goals and drives execution and delivery.
  • Partners with the business owner to understand needs, manage scope and add/eliminate user stories.
  • Communicates requirements to Agile Team in a clear and collaborative manner to determine new requirements, negotiate teams and dependencies. Regularly interacts closely with the Product Manager to discuss goals and vision of the business/value stream, actively gaining knowledge on the matter.
  • Heavily involved in the Program Increment (PI) planning, story definition and assists team with story estimates and sequencing.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent or relevant work experience (6 + years of business management, analytics, financial, project or process management).  Master's degree preferred.
  • Completion of or actively pursuing a major insurance designation or process improvement certification (Six Sigma or Z-Lean Green Belt). 
  • SAFe Product Owner Certification (obtained within 180 days of hire) required.

Experience Requirements

Two years as a process improvement specialist or four years as a Business Analyst or four years as a Project Manager.

Special Skill Requirement

  • Sound understanding of insurance loss, expense, growth components and efficiencies.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and capitalize on them. Negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to partner successfully with cross functional technical and business teams (Finance, IT, U/W, Marketing, Compliance/Legal, Operations) to establish project objectives and action plans.
  • Effective communication both formal, informal, written and verbal. Ability to effectively write user stories and break down features into user stories.
  • Ability to extract and analyze data from internal data sources.
  • Ability to analyze processes for waste and improvement. 
  • Possess strong product knowledge, business, and functional knowledge in the supported value stream.





Candidate qualifications may be reviewed against the requirements for the associated levels of this position's core function. As such, this position may be SG37, SG36 or SG35. Salary grade will be based on selected candidates' experience and skills.
