Commercial Product Manager II


Job Summary

Responsible for top line growth and bottom line profit for the product they are accountable for in an assigned geographical territory or industry group. Works with informational inputs from inside and outside the organization and business partners to create strategies and to direct the development of product pricing and contract changes to achieve goals set by the business. Collaborates with Underwriting to make recommendations for underwriting guideline changes and additions including form and coverage changes. Works with multiple business partners maintaining open lines of communication with the Agency management, Claims and the Commercial Service Center organizations to obtain critical market and loss trend information. Travels to meet with business partners which may include large groups of agents to communicate strategies. May manage product analysts.

Essential Job Functions

Creates long and short-term growth and profit strategies that align with company-wide objectives. Reviews statistical analysis of data concerning loss patterns, market forces, agency management, etc. to evaluate the success of such strategies/tactics to either modify or create new ones. Builds strong partnerships with Home Office Marketing and other applicable parties in order to provide input on the development of product changes and underwriting training. Manages policy forms for assigned states or industry groups as well as proposes changes to contracts and endorsements that broaden or restrict coverage. Takes on leadership role in special projects assigned by the department Director for assigned states and industry groups that requires the employee to define the problem, identify the actual work that needs to be done, and ensure the deliverable occur. Manages, trains, and develops Assistant Product Managers and/or Product Managers through overseeing the selection, evaluation , compensation, training, transfer and termination of assigned employees in accordance with established personnel policies and practices for the Commercial Insurance group. Responsible for ensuring all Commercial product changes are communicated to field services, operations, underwriting, marketing and system technology teams. Uses expertise in various internal systems, metrics and reports to analyze and interpret Commercial product data that facilitates the roll out of new products and enhancements to agents and District Manager. Reports financial results of assigned states and industry to senior management and meets with business partners and agents to communicate strategy changes. Leads rate review process with Line of Business heads, Underwriting, Actuarial and Territory offices to ensure all parties support r ecommended rate and non-rate actions. Facilitates rate changes with the actuarial group after completion of the rate review process. Uses expertise in company and ind ustry knowledge to participate in Commercial Wholesaler conferences. Ensures products in assigned states or industries are compliant with various state regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred with MBA/Advanced Degree or advanced insurance designations preferred.

Experience Requirements

7-10 years of insurance or product management experience required, preferably in commercial insurance. Experience managing numerous deliverables and navigating ambiguity, while taking direction and offering input. Prior experience building partnerships with customers, agents and organizations

Special Skill Requirement

Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate others required. Demonstrated computer skills, including Excel, Access, SAS, and Word preferred. Demonstrated successful performance as a commercial underwriter and or product manager with the ability to take on higher premium and policy counts if called upon.
