Job Summary

 

  • Oversees and responsible for the plan design, administration, compliance, operation, processes, and communications of Farmers employee and retirement Health and Welfare, Retirement and Deferred Compensation Plans; ensures legal and regulatory compliance of benefit plans and recommends actions to mitigate exposure; manages change management and communication of plan changes and updates; develops, manages and maintains relationships with external benefit vendors and consultants; manages and monitors vendor performance and provides feedback and recommendations to improve performance; coordinates activities as needed with other resources including law firms, actuaries, and other outside organizations and with internal functions including Finance, Accounting, HRIT, Legal, Corporate Communications, and other departments.
  • Serves as primary contact for strategic benefit issues, projects and services.
  • Provides guidance, counsel and policy interpretations on benefits issues.
  • Actively maintains awareness of benefits trends and issues, identifies and recommends plan changes.
  • Manages the Benefits team and is responsible for developing the team skills and performance management, implementing process improvements, and ensuring the appropriate expertise and resources are available to provide high-quality, timely services.

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Manages all aspects of employee benefit programs, which include but are not limited to Health and Welfare, Retirement and Deferred Compensation Plans. Responsible for managing budgets and vendor fees, working with internal partners as appropriate.
  • Manages efficient operation and administration of employee benefit programs working with external vendor partners and the HRSC; maintains focus on service quality, compliance and efficiency. Ensures legal and regulatory compliance; directs the preparation and filing (including obtaining the proper approval authority and distribution to participants) of benefit reports required by law.
  • Acts as subject matter expert to Human Resources leadership regarding complex employee benefit issues and program interpretation.
  • Participates in Committee meetings, as required (e.g., Pension &Benefits Committee, Benefit Administration Committee).
  • Liaise with Zurich Group, as appropriate.
  • Oversees development of change management and communications to plan participants and internal/external partners.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements benefit strategies that meet the needs of the business and participants.
  • Surveys the market, conducts research, and understands trends and the competitive environment; continually evaluates offerings for efficacy and value in meeting the changing needs of the company.
  • Manages day to day activities of the Benefits team, prioritizes work against available resources; sets clear goals and priorities for team; assesses talent, coaches and manages to performance expectations; oversees and manages continuous process improvement; fosters customer centricity focus; shows respect to employees; promotes and drives collaboration within and across groups.

Education Requirements

 

  

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Masters degree preferred. 
  • SPHR, CEBS, CPLP or CCP designation.

Experience Requirements

 

  • 8+ years of HR experience including benefits and supervisory experience.
