Job Summary

Farmers Group (Woodland Hills, CA) seeks a Senior Data Engineer to provide high level of expertise in the conceptual design and functionality of business applications, understand business objectives and how best they can be supported by IT. Specific duties include: deliver Data Engineering capabilities for streaming and batch-based data ingestion, conformance, and enrichment; build and operate tools, services, and infrastructure to align, store, and provision the data; contribute to and execute on roadmap strategy and conceptual design changes/enhancements; partner closely with cloud adoption, architecture, and business stakeholder teams; provide engineering expertise to the quarterly and annual planning exercises; ensure data capabilities offer reliable high-quality data with consistent SLAs; coordinate with supplier teams for task assignment, code reviews, knowledge transition sessions, and operational activities; validate suppliers’ estimates; perform impact analysis of application changes across various components; estimate Rough Order of Magnitude to implement new application functionality; understand customer processes and products and their business value; responsible for the conceptual design of business applications; act as liaison between Business and IT; support implementation activities and troubleshooting system environmental issues; conduct training as required; and mentor lower level colleagues. Option to work remotely is available.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field of study, plus 5 years of experience in the job offered, or as a Sr. Software Dev Analyst, Associate, Lead Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar position in software and data engineering. Must have 5 years of experience working with ETL tools Informatica PowerCenter or IDMC, including performance tuning and optimizing programs. Must also have 3 years of experience working with each of the following: operational data staging (ODS) environments, data modeling principles, and data warehousing concepts; AWS cloud computing principles; development tools and CI/CD processes; and SQL and relational databases. Additionally, specific experience must include: working with Unix shell scripting, SQL, Informatica Power Center, SQL Server or similar database technologies, XML, including data modeling principles or concepts, and scheduling tools like Autosys or Tivoli; working with Guidewire Policy and Claims Center; working with Agile project methodologies and SQL/ETL performance tuning concepts; developing and supporting real-time or near-real-time integration patterns including plug-in or middleware consumption; and explaining complex concepts and issues in simple terms to technical and non-technical audience.
