    Research & Development
    Roles in Personal Lines Research & Development offer an exciting combination of research projects and business problems. We use an eclectic mix of modeling approaches to build industry-leading risk pricing models, measure performance, and inform strategy. Such techniques include generalized linear models, neural networks, decision trees, finite mixture models, cluster analysis, factor analysis, and multivariate statistical analysis. Modelers can also expect to:
  • Perform ad hoc analyses to solve business problems and drive better tactical decisions
  • Operationalize high level business goals into tasks and technical specifications, then execute in an ever changing environment
  • Collaborate with IT and business partners to drive solutions into production

    Essential Job Functions 
  • Under direct supervision, apply appropriate modeling techniques using code templates to address business needs
  • Use best practices and traditional statistical modeling techniques for routinely performed analyses
  • Assist with model application and implementation
  • Review programs to ensure they conform to quality standards
  • Support preparation of internal/external, structured/unstructured data sets to build/rebuild/refresh predictive models
  • Regularly query large databases and build datasets for statistical modeling and ad hoc analytics
  • Perform data cleaning processes to prepare data for analytics
  • Assist with research and implementation of technology using machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques
  • Perform model testing against established standards
  • Communicate model details to other modelers
  • Provide ongoing assistance for business issues
  • Understand and follow internal and external compliance requirements
Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in a quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, etc.
  • Programming experience with SAS and/or other relevant packages (Python, R, etc.)
  • Aptitude and strong interest in statistical modeling techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, GLM, etc.
  • Adaptable, focused, proactive, and capable of performing multiple tasks
