Responsible for coordinating the development of Farmers’ enterprise vision and strategies in close cooperation with BUs (business units) staff. In consultation with Farmers’ management, develops and aligns the corporate strategic plan and appropriately disseminates it within the Farmers and Zurich organizations. Assists operational units in developing strategic plans which support the enterprise vision and strategy.
Essential Job Functions
Directs the development and consolidation of three year corporate strategic plans, including annual enterprise goals, based on input from BUs and other internal sources.
Coordinates, refines and prepares narrative portions of periodic updates (e.g. quarterly results and investor relations briefings) to the parent organization.
Performs critical thinking affecting Farmers' strategic foundation, its vision, business mission, key success factors and strategic direction, as well as its key issues, tasks and short-term tactical plans.
Maintains a current analysis of Farmers' position relative to its goals and objectives, including trends and understanding of the drivers of performance.
Is available for consultation with BUs regarding recommendations for closing gaps.
Considers Farmers' operating environment, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to identify strategic imperatives; suggest ways to improve alignment with them.
Stays apprised of external forces impacting the insurance industry that may have an impact of the successful accomplishment of plans.
Performs peer review of significant proposals from internal and external sources and reports findings; handles special projects as assigned.
Acts as a strategic planning consultant to Home and field office staff; fosters broad acceptance and common use of Roadmap as a strategic planning tool.
Integrates Farmers future strategic thrusts and actions into the enterprise strategic plan; coordinates the development and preparation of assigned special projects in the areas of enterprise, strategic or organizational planning.
Reviews and analyzes operational reports; summarizes significant findings. Coordinates review and refinement of board reports (Board of Directors, Board of Governors).
Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10-lbs. maximum and seeing. Functional abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking required.
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional travel by car or airplane.
Bachelor's degree required. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation required.
Five to eight years multi-disciplinary background in Property/Casualty and or Life operations, including at least two years in a staff manager or higher position.
Strategic planning experience preferred but not required.
Special Skill Requirement
Ability to use a personal computer and designated word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software.
