Job Summary 
  
  • Responsible for coordinating the development of Farmers corporate vision and strategies in close cooperation with SBU (strategic business unit) staff.
  • In consultation with Farmers management, writes the corporate strategic plan and appropriately disseminates it within the Farmers and Zurich organizations.
  • Assists operational units in developing strategic plans of their own which support the corporate vision and strategy. 
  • Perform financial deep dives into various financial topics
  • Provide financial insights into various strategic topics.
  • Assist in investment operations and sales analysis.
  • Support head of PPM in various projects and committees including the Farmers Life Product Committee.
  
Essential Job Functions 
  
  • Performs critical thinking affecting Farmers' strategic foundation, its vision, business mission, key success factors and strategic direction, as well as its key issues, tasks and short-term tactical plans.
  • Considers Farmers' operating environment, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to identify strategic imperatives; suggest ways to improve alignment with them.
  • Stays apprised of external forces impacting the insurance industry that may have an impact of the successful accomplishment of long-range plans. Contributes to and involved in formulation of Farmers' future 5 and 10 year strategy.
  • Conducts and participates in the development of industry, competitor and market research integral to the ongoing internal and external analyses of Farmers and its operating environment. Also involved in external benchmarking (Farmers' performance v. competitors and best-in-class companies in other industries.
  • Support the coordination with Farmers management company corporate parent, Zurich Financial Services, in the tracking, communication and guidance of our key growth and transformation initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of analyst and market presentations to be given by Farmers executive management team members.
  • Participates in Strategic Planning internal consulting projects utilizing our IdeaPoint Innovation process Participates in the implementation, deployment, and evolution of Farmers contributions to the Zurich Lean continuous improvement methodology.
  • Works with Home Office staff and field operations to enhance their business plans and use of strategic planning tools.
  • Performs peer review of significant proposals from internal and external sources and reports findings; handles special projects as assigned. Acts as a strategic planning consultant to Home and field office staff; fosters broad acceptance and common use of Roadmap as a strategic planning tool.
  • Integrates Farmersfuture strategic thrusts and actions into the corporate strategic plan; coordinates the development and preparation of assigned special projects in the areas of corporate, strategic or organizational planning.
  • Coordinates the collections of KPIs and milestones for the Farmers Balanced Scorecard by gathering the needed metrics from various r eporting sources including the respective Business Units, automated company business and financial reports and internal tracking.
  • Using the Farmers Balance Scorecard, maintains a current analysis of Farmers' position relative to its goals and objectives. Reviews and analyzes operational reports; summarizes significant findings.
  • Provides timely updates of the Balance Scorecard to the Operating Group and Farmers Segment Growth Council. Coordinates review and refinement of board reports (Board of Directors, Board of Governors).  
  
Physical Actions 
  
Required job duties are essentially sedentary work, consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10 lbs. maximum. Functional abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking required. 
  
Physical Environment 
  
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, with occasional travel by car or airplane. 
  
Education Requirements 
  
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Pursuing or attainment of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations. Maintains current skills by continually participating in internal and external education and training classes.  
  
Experience Requirements 
  
Ten years multi-disciplinary background in Property/Casualty and or Life operations. Experience managing projects in a development or implementation environment. Strategic planning experience preferred but not required. Knowledge or experience with various sales distribution methods, i.e., direct, internet, etc. 
  
Special Skill Requirement 
  
Ability to use a personal computer and designated word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software. Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and project management skills
