Job Summary 
  
The Instructional Designer is responsible for the design and development of training curriculum for the assigned areas. The position has direct responsibility for the design and development of curricula, communications, certificate programs, research and best practices for centralized training, in consultation with subject-matter experts. He or she may report to a Senior Instructional Designer or be assigned to provide oversight and coaching for junior Instructional Designers on the assigned project.
 
We are seeking candidates with the following skills:
  • Experience in instructional design and with instructional technology
  • Knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Lesson and curriculum planning skills
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and Learning Management System
  • Visual and graphic design skills and ability to storyboard
  • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts
  • Ability to edit video and audio files
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge preferred 
  
Essential Job Functions 
  • Managing: Supervises other Instructional Designers on individual project if assigned.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to more junior design personnel on the instructional design process and related skills.
  • Consulting: Accountable for consulting with Curriculum Manager, Line of Business Assignment Managers, subject-matter experts and Senior Instructional Designer on project to design and develop training curricula that meets business objectives.
  • Developing: Conducts needs and delivery analysis (for new and existing courses), then designs and develops training curriculum, materials and job aids for instructor-led, video, web or other virtual platform.
  • Measurement and Evaluation: Works with Assignment Manager, SMEs amd Senior Instructional Designer to incorporate a plan to measure and evaluate the training against business objectives.
  • Assists in providing recommendations to correct identified deficiencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements 
  
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degre e preferred. Completion of, or actively pursuing, a major insurance designation, insurance-related course, and/or instructional design 
  
Experience Requirements 
  
Completion of Claims Leadership Development or equivalent claims-sponsored program required for internal candidates. External candidates should have at least four years of prior claims experience and/or experience in instructional design/development. The same time-on-job requirement is preferred for internal candidates. Strong demonstrated collaboration and team leadership skills/experience.  
  
Special Skill Requirement 
  
Coaching and mentoring skills. Knowledge of and ability to apply adult learning principles in training development. Understanding of how to develop performance metrics linking training to business needs. PC literacy required (in design software and MS Office suite).
