Farmers Group (Woodland Hills, CA) seeks a Senior Predictive Analyst to contribute to the development and implementation of predictive analytics through the application of advanced statistical and analytical techniques in order to deliver data driven insights supporting business objectives. Specific responsibilities include: using appropriate modeling techniques to address business needs; contributing to the continuous improvement of the modeling process; contributing to the development of new modeling techniques and procedures; developing various programs including predictor and response variable programs; reviewing programs to ensure they conform to quality standards; supporting preparation of internal/external, structured/unstructured data sets to build/rebuild/refresh predictive models; communicating models to audiences outside of department; coordinating with business leads to develop understanding, engagement, and branding; continuously deepening knowledge of insurance industry practices across multiple disciplines; building complex models to segment customers by risk profiles; understanding and predicting customer behavior; identifying trends and issues in specific product, states, or industry segments; conducting research and analyses to help shape and inform strategic business decisions; analyzing and extracting company and vendor data, developing competitive information, understanding changing legal climate and market trend, and making appropriate recommendations for improvement; using advanced analytical and statistical techniques such as generalized linear regression model, logistic model, forward and backward variable selection, TreeDISC, clustering; performing data extraction, aggregation, and quality checking from multiple data sources to prepare statistical and narrative reports and recommendations; performing data mining and data analysis activities, initiating proactive investigations into data issues that impact reporting, analysis, or program execution; preparing filing support and DOI objection; leading own work stream on moderate to high complexity projects; creating and enhancing various analytical tools and queries that can help improve operational results; developing requirements and performing testing on these analytical tools; creating and enhancing various analytical tools that can be used by outside teams to make informed business decisions and perform testing on these analytical tools. Provide training and support to outside groups using these tools; providing technical training and user support to other teammates; communicating effectively with the Claims, Underwriting, Pricing, and Product teams, as well as other departments in the company; and helping mentor and train less experienced analysts, assisting them on daily projects and activities; performing lead modeler responsibilities for large modeling projects, including countrywide and state-specific product modeling projects; communicating effectively with all members of the team, preparing programs and files that are clear to other modelers and to members of Sr. Management; and creating complete files for passing information to business partners. Position requires occasional travel within the U.S.
Position requires a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Statistical Practice, Finance, or a related field of study, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered, as a Predictive Analyst, or a similar research and development position. Experience must include: programming in SAS; data cleaning and validation (identifying outliers, exceptions and inconsistencies); data quality control and visualization; statistical and predictive modeling techniques such as machine learning, probability networks, association rules, clustering, linear regression, generalized linear modeling, time series and decision trees; neural networks and their application to business decisions; VBA programming; programming and use of database tools such as SAS, C++, Python, SQL, and Java; and working in cross-functional teams. Must be willing to occasionally travel within the U.S.
