We are seeking to have a summer intern join our IT Business Management Group under Office of the CIO.

What to Expect in the Internship Journey
  • Large Office Fundamentals

The purpose of this project will be to provide the intern a strong foundation for working in the corporate world. You will learn the basics of navigating a large organization, managing a project, and collaborating with multiple groups and departments. The primary goal will be to prepare the intern for working at any large office, not just Farmers. You will also be exposed to Farmers and department-specific policies and procedures, so will have the foundation for being hired in the future if and when the opportunity arises.

  • Major IT Incident - Root Cause Analysis, Scorecard Design, and QuickBase Automation
    • The intern will learn and understand the Farmers and Zurich incident and problem management processes end-to-end
      • They will also learn the validation processes for each service in-scope for our team using ServiceNow (SNOW) and other systems
    • Learn to understand and interpret moderately technical documents
      • Review Root Cause Analysis results, and ServiceNow history
    • Learn the basics of managing a supplier service
      • Understand the contractual agreements
      • Understand business needs and priorities vs the agreements
    • Learn basic data manipulation and how to think about data/problems
      • Show Excel basics if unknown
        • Utilize large data sets to show different aspects of performance
    • Learn basics in QuickBase, a low-code platform, and use those skills to work on enhancements for our dashboards

At the completion of the internship, the intern will have an understanding of:

      • Farmers’ business and organizational structure
      • What Employee Resource Groups are and how they function
      • What Service Level Agreements, Root Cause Analysis, and Managed Services are
      • The processes of our immediate organization
      • Basic networking skills
      • Communication best practices
      • Basic project management
      • General IT terms, principles, and processes, including:
        • Software Development Life Cycle
        • Defects, Anomalies, Changes, Outages
        • Agile vs Waterfall
What You Bring
  • Bachelors degree in progress in the Junior or Senior year OR Master’s program in Computer Science
    • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
    • Ability to speak in meetings and discuss your subject matter expertise with other business professionals
    • Proven ability to multi-task and deliver results within tight timeframes
    • Experience in customer service and/or related work experience highly desirable
