Develops a knowledge base of company operations, contract forms, policy administration, life and disability claims principles, regulatory requirements, medical terminology and investigative techniques. Participates in training in order to meet certain criteria and commence the examination of limited value disability, non-contestable death and ADB claims, annuity, and payor benefit claims.
Essential Job Functions
Confirms and reviews for other coverage. Works with assistants to notify beneficiaries and order records in a timely manner. Researches, reviews and advises on topics such as absolute assignments, beneficiary designation, Uniform Probate Codes, Estate documents such as Administrators/Executors, Guardianship of minors, Small Estate Affidavits, Divorce Statutes, Post-Mortem Interest, Consent to Transfer, etc. Communicates with claimants, agents, vendors, customer service representatives, investigators, law enforcement officials, and medical providers to ensure the prompt handling of claims, and to keep interested parties apprised of the status of claim investigations. Maintains claim registers for accurate financial reporting of pending, paid, and denied claims. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of claim files. Works with Examiners on more complex claims for training purposes. Processes incontestable life, waiver of premium disability, annuity and payor claims for payment or denial. Participates in Life Claims Examiner training and ICA required coursework. Reviews files for compliance with procedures and standardized functions. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 20 lbs. maximum, hearing seeing and speaking
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
No prior work experience required although good keyboard, communication, analytical and letter writing skills are needed. This phase of Examiner development is expected to last anywhere from six to eighteen months depending on the level of experience the candidate entered with. Upon successful completion of the two ALHC introductory courses along with demonstrated proficiency in claim evaluation the candidate will be considered for promotion to the Life Claim Examiner position.
