Job Summary 

Enterprise Data Architect—BI/DW Delivery is responsible for setting direction across Farmers Analytical Data Organization; which are IT departments that are focused on supporting analytic needs across the enterprise. Ensure that project and program architecture aligns to the Farmers enterprise vision. Evaluate the current state landscape, design and measure to a future vision and roadmap aligned to a blend of best practices and current environmental factors. Serve as a senior advisor and influence key business and IT stakeholders on the case for change. 
Essential Job Functions 

  • Ability to influence business and IT executives and leaders to in order to create and promote change for improving existing business processes, increasing ROI and overall effectiveness.
  • Ability to build and articulate an architecture and delivery roadmap indicating current to future state vision, focused around clear benefits to both IT and business users. 
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining architectural artifacts: roadmap, reference architecture, guidelines, compromises / technical debt lists, decisions, and patterns.
  • Proven experience in architecture governance and peer reviews.
  • Responsible for conceptual and technical design of complex ETL workflows and database engineering patterns.  
  • Work with infrastructure team to determine solution sizing and hosting requirements for the different environments across project phases. 
  • Facilitate evaluation and selection of enterprise software products as needed.
  • Architect roadmap for:
    • Enterprise Data Management and BI / Analytics Landscape on-premise and multi-cloud.
      • Data load methodologies including batch, NRT, and RT options.
      • Data access options providing for Self-serve, Service-enabled data access, visual-based data discovery, and traditional reporting.
  • And in consideration of Data [Security, Governance, Acquisition, Access, Reuse, Maintainability, Performance, and Quality].
Physical Actions: Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing and lifting and/or carrying 10 lbs. maximum. 
Physical Environment: Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. 

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required with IT emphasis. Continue educational development in job related field. 

Experience Requirements 
  • 7+ years’ experience as an Enterprise Data Architect, IT/ERP implementations and integration with downstream transactional insurance systems.
  • 10+ years data warehouse, BI, and database engineering experience (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 UDB / Mainframe, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift).
  • 5+ years modeling experience (Visio, Erwin, ER/ Studio).
  • 5+ years ETL experience (Informatica Power Center, SSIS, or similar).
  • 5+ years BI & Analytics experience (Tableau, Power BI, SAP BO, SAS, OBIEE or similar).
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated abilities to lead large, multi-million dollar Data programs.
  • Proven ability to work with all levels within the IT and Business organization.
  • Expert knowledge of normalized and dimensional modeling techniques.
  • Certifications in Enterprise Architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman, EABOK, EACOE). 
  • Insurance data model experience (e.g. IAA and Acord). 
  • Additional 3-5 years working in another role within the data domain (i.e. business/data analyst, quality assurance analyst, ETL developer or BI / information delivery developer). 
  • Additional 3-5 years working in another architecture role outside of EA (i.e. solution, project, system).
  • Demonstrated ability to write complex SQL for purposes of analyzing data and/or evaluating how information needs might be translated into backend database structures.
  • Experience in master data governance.
  • Insurance industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with assessment, and solution architecture for Big Data technologies.
  • Experience with any existing Cloud Service Provider (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, or SAP Cloud).
  • Stay current on industry trends in data modeling, data architecture, and data movement.  

Special Skill Requirement 
  •  Project management skills. 
  • Ongoing awareness of technological trends to determine where to apply new technologies. 
  • Knowledge of IT concepts and disciplines to enable completion of difficult assignments. 
  • Knowledge of insurance operations and functional responsibilities.
